The Thermo by Nokia is Smart Temporal Thermometer that connects via an app (because if it doesn’t come with an app these days it doesn’t really exist), and uses an infrared sensor to get an accurate reading in a non-invasive way. It all comes in a rather stylish package and the thermometer itself has a tactile feeling about it, and comfortably fits the hand making it ideal for grabbing and using in low lights without the fear of dropping it on your patient’s face. There is a silicone material over the end which protects the sensor further up inside the thermometer, this is a nice touch because if you decided to place the device against the skin, it is soft and at room temperature unlike the cold traditional glass thermometers.

Setting up the Thermo was a bit of a hassle, you have to give so much personal information to link it to the app, the idea behind this is to provide you with a medical history but it feels slightly intrusive, and it is unfortunate that there isn’t an option to use the thermometer without signing up to the app. Once signed up, connected and updated, the Thermo is easy to use. Press the button and immediately scan the device across the forehead towards the temple, 16 infrared sensors take over 4,000 measurements to find the hottest point, the reading then pops up in a large clear LED along with a colour-coded fever indicator to help you understand what the temperature means. It will then automatically sync to the app which allows you to track temperature readings, get reminders, and input related symptoms/medications. You can sync up to 8 members on one app and it vibrates when it has successfully taken a reading which makes it easy to use it on yourself. Unlike traditional methods, there is no need to undress the baby or even touch them when getting a reading, it is also readable at night and features a lights-off measurement so as not to disturb the child whilst they sleep. Other than the initial hassle of setting up the Thermo I was generally impressed by this thermometer, it is speedy, accurate and sanitary, though in a protective travel case and it might be perfect.
