Ever watched the scene from Meet the Parents where Jinxy the cat uses the toilet? It may surprise you to know that there are cats out there who really do use the toilet, these are not just sophisticated kitties who have abandoned the litter trays from their own accord but they have gone through serious training. The Litter Kwitter is a training aid the uses 3 simple steps to take your cat from tray to toilet in as little as 8 weeks, ok so 8 weeks might sound a long time but when your furry friend lives 15 years on average think of all the time, mess and money you could save by never having to use litter trays again.

The Litter Kwitter uses a one size fits all toilet seat that you simply place over the top of your own toilet seat with various colour coded rings that fit inside, the rings start off as a normal litter tray and then a hole in the middle gets bigger and bigger until they adjust to balancing on the toilet seat with no training aid at all (it comes with a DVD to explain how to train your cat effectively and has tips and problem solvers too), the only thing you will need to bring yourself to the training process is patience. I was impressed with the product and DVD tutorial and set about following the instructions to try and train my two 3-year-old cats. You have to take a leap of faith and remove all the litter trays in the house, this is where we fell at the first hurdle, one of my cats (the more dominate one) wasn’t fazed by the change but my other little boy wasn’t happy about having to share the tray with his brother and we had a few little accidents in the porch until I finally gave in and put a small tray back for him to use.

Litter Kwitter do explain that two or more cats have to be comfortable in using one tray before you can start training and I had often seen them use the same tray but as they had 3 to choose from I guess sharing wasn’t that big of a deal. As soon as I had one litter tray back down it led to two and before I knew it we had given up on the whole thing. This has no reflection on the product however and there are plenty of people out there who have tried and succeeded in training their cats to use to toilet, including my friend (currently on the second amber stage) who I passed the Litter Kwitter on to after my failed attempt. So if you want to say goodbye to stinky litter trays and teach your kitty to use the toilet the Litter Kwitter is a brilliant training tool, just remember to leave your toilet seat up. RRP £39.95

Pros

RSPCA approved

Comes with everything you need to train your cat

Made from the same material as fireman hats so will take the weight of the fattest kitty

It will pay for itself as there are no more cat litter costs

One size fits all toilet seats

Cons

If using it for more than one cat ALL cats must be comfortable using one tray

Not a negative for the Litter Kwitter but a negative of cats in general, if they REALLY don’t                                                        want to do something want to do it, don’t force or punish kitty for not wanting to change their routine.
