There are so many elements of modern life that can leave you in need of a good massage, whether its being hunched over a keyboard all day, pushing for gains in the gym, lifting junior and the crap they come with 100 times a day, we have even heard rumours that there are people out there who do something called manual labour?! There are plenty of people out there willing to charge you a small fortune to beat you muscles into a gooey mess, but this isn’t always affordable, and a letting stranger man handle your flesh isn’t everyone’s idea of relaxing. The Gel Shiatsu Massage Pillow is a convenient way to get a deep massage at home, it has two gel massaging nodes that provide a near natural touch massage and it can be used on legs, back and shoulders. This massager has a compact design for portability, you reverse the action Shiatsu mechanism with circular thumb action, there is also a heat option and remote control to easily vary the massage therapy.

Firstly, it looks good, it’s quite large but it has soft padding around the edges and it comfortable to lean on and lay a leg on, but its bulky design makes it more difficult to access the tops of the shoulders. You have to plug this massager into the mains which could limit where you can use it, but it comes with a long lead, the remote is connected to the cushion with a lead which controls the direction the nodes rotate. The heat option is a bit of a let-down, it takes ages to get warm and never really gets hot enough to have a real impact on the massage, it lights up the nodes with a red light which gives the allusion of warmth.

Due to the one size fits all design some people may benefit more from this than others it can be awkward to manoeuvre into position, the instructions are limited as are the different effects available. The Gel Shiatsu Massage pillow provided a strong and deep massage to my upper and lower back as well as my thighs but it was harder to get a good position on my calves, shoulders and neck, the heat action needs to be more powerful and a few extra functions would help make it worth the money.
