Sometimes you don’t even realise an appliance is flawed until a better version comes along, making you wonder why it hasn’t always been this way. Many public restrooms use automatic soap dispensers so why shouldn’t we take advantage of this technology and bring it into our homes? I have already been converted and own two automatic soap dispensers, the only issue I have with them is the batteries they get through. The Rechargeable Sensor Pump from simplehuman does away with the battery issue by providing three months of use from one single charge. It comes in three attractive designs - brushed stainless steel, polished stainless steel and rose gold and has a 266ml capacity.
The sensor is built into the spout which means all you need to do is raise your hand to the nozzle and out pops the soap, no need to touch it with your dirty hands (you know where they’ve been) keeping the dispenser smudge and germ free. This dispenser features clog-proof tubing pump that delivers a consistent flow with a silicone valve that successfully prevents any drips, unlike some of the other simplehuman dispensers you don’t set the amount of soap that comes out instead this is controlled by where you position your hand. For just a little soap you put your hand up close to the nozzle, put your hand lower and you will get three times as much, this caused a few accidents when we brushed past at a low angle and ended up covered in soap, it also means you will have to give guests a quick tutorial of how to wash their hands after they pee, which is fine when it’s your best mate but slightly more awkward when it’s the boiler man.
There is a funnel to make refilling a clean and straightforward procedure and the box contains a lovely lavender soap sample to get you hooked. The Sensor Pump is waterproof for easy cleaning with an IP67 rating, it has a manual on/off button in the rear and a compact body of 11.2 x 7 x 17.2cm, it looks beautiful too and would happily compliment both bathroom or kitchen. The Sensor Pump looks great and works like a treat, we didn’t find the variable dispense system the most intuitive, but you do get used to it, probably best suited for the en suite or kitchen rather than the main bathroom.
