The ever popular Cloudflyer from On Running has had a waterproof upgrade for the winter, it’s hard enough to find the motivation to head out for a run with the dark evenings and cold that the sight of rain and the thought of cold wet socks is enough to send you under the duvet for good. The Cloudflyer Waterproof provides a lightweight shoe with waterproof protection, it’s available in one design Black & Lunar in both Men’s and Women’s and they are available in half sizes. They feature a fully waterproof mesh which has been engineered to keep out both wind and water whilst at the same time allowing heat to escape the shoot to keep your feet cool whilst you pound the pavement. These shoes use Cloudtec technology which includes Zero-Gravity Foam that offers an ultralight and advanced abrasion pads for a strong grip and a long life, the Rebound-Rubber uses an open Cloud element construction which again saves weight and returns the energy you put in to each step, whilst the engineered Speedboard Forward encourages the natural rolling motion of your foot.

These shoes weigh 292g (US M 8.5) and have a heel-toe offset of 7mm, for increased visibility there is reflective detailing on the forefoot, laces, heel and outsole, the v-moulded heel cap provides a non-slip fit. These shoes were tested out on a particularly grizzly day, one of those where it keeps switching between fine mist and big fat rain drops, after 10k of puddles, rain and wet grass, (plus 15mins of standing in the freezing cold because I lost my key mid run), by the time I finally go inside my socks were literally the only part of me that were still dry, and I mean bone dry. Excellent waterproofing aside the Cloudflyer’s are springy and well cushioned, they provided excellent traction on wet concrete, but they can become slippery on muddy surfaces. Overall these are great waterproof shoes best suited for urban running, they are highly waterproof and windproof these lightweight shoes will protect your feet on those wet runs, it’s just the rest of you that will be drenched.
