Spinlock is a UK company that focuses on nautical equipment. More specifically, it produces famously-known rope-holding equipment for sailing boats, from dinghies to superyachts. However, the seafaring company didn’t stop there; as it built up a respected name in boating circles, it expanded into other products - most notably, safety apparel such as life jackets and wetsuits. These wetsuits don’t only keep Spinlock’s customers a little dryer and warmer, though; they’re ready to protect you through all manner of high-activity watersports.

The Aero Pro is one of Spinlock’s latest in protective gear
. This piece is advertised as suitable for “high agility” sports, including dinghy, multihull and keelboat sailing. This piece of kit comes with an inbuilt 50N Flotation vest (ISO12402-5 approved) that uses ultra-flexible, soft, high-buoyancy foam and provides flotation protection without encumbering the wearer. The close-fitting top clings to the figure and is made with a high-gloss finish, all to reduce wind and water resistance and snagging, all in order to aid aerodynamics. Airway ventilation makes sure that whilst this top is clingy, it still breathes, whilst a close-fitting, high-stretch collar and sleeves stop water sneaking in through these risk areas. Stretch pockets allow two spaces to stash essential items, whilst keeping them flat to your figure so you don’t mess up your aerodynamic shape.

Despite, or perhaps because of the technology in it, the Aero Pro is shockingly comfortable! It feels fantastic: the fabric is soft, and in many ways this just feels like you’re wearing a regular top. It isn’t smothering or distracting - you could easily wear this for a long time. Yet, it still feels safe, like you’re wearing something of reassuring substance. Adjustable straps make the sizing and fit more flexible, though you should still check the size guide carefully before purchase, as the Aero Pro needs to be a tight fit by design.

The waist gaiter on the Aero Pro has a trapeze hook opening to help secure you to your vessel as needed. This piece of gear has been designed with active sports in mind, hence its slick and hardy make. It exceeds the performance requirements of EN1621‑2:2014, and is sold with helpful optional extras such as the
D3O® Impact Protection Back Protector, or a hydration pack and tube to make it easy to drink on the go.

Despite its hardy make, Spinlock still warns that you need to look after the Aero Pro, as high-demand sports could give it wear and tear if it isn’t treated right. However, look after it, and it will certainly look after you! RRP £135
