As the autumn months have already made their dramatic return here in the UK, early mornings are just a little bit harder now, being both colder and darker. For me, there’s only one way to combat this and get myself ready for the day, and that’s with a delicious morning coffee. Therefore, when we got the chance to test out the Minipresso GR2 from WACACO I was super excited, having already loved many of their other espresso machine units before.

The Minipresso GR2 delivers many of the excellent features I’ve come to expect from WACACO, including a delicious rich espresso, but now in a super compact unit. The Minipresso GR2 is now smaller and lighter than many of its counterparts on the market and has been designed with sustainability and an even greater user experience in mind.

To use the Minipresso GR2 you just take out the brush, scoop and drip tray accessories which can compactly be stored in the water tank and unclip the bottom coffee cup. Once you’ve done this you unscrew the outlet, add in your coffee, tamp and screw it back into the unit. Then, you just add boiling water, replace the lid, and are ready to begin using the front piston to push the water through the coffee and deliver a rich espresso topped with a delicious thick crema layer. What I love about this unit is that you can actually adjust the coffee basket capacity, from 8 grams to 12. This allows you a little more customization of how strong you like your espresso, so every single one is perfected to your taste.

With the development of the Minipresso GR2, WACACO has put sustainability at the forefront of its design by using fewer materials in the more compact unit and integrating more biobased materials such as wheat-based polymers. Plus, the unit is completely electricity and battery-free, relying only on hand-pumping to produce the espresso. Therefore, this produces no excess waste when batteries run down or need electricity generation to make it work, and so does not contribute towards excessive environmental waste. The design is a big win for both the environment and the customer because it means that the Minipresso GR2 can be taken with you wherever you go without worrying about access to a power source to still get those precious first few sips of coffee every morning.
