Ben Sayers was formed way back in 1873, that’s the same year our dear old Queen Lizzy’s Great-Great-Grandmother, Queen Victoria, was on the throne, so it is easy to believe that this is amongst the oldest golf companies in the world. The Ben Sayers brand created many revolutionary pieces of golf equipment, including the gutta-percha golf balls and the ‘Benny’ putter, the first putter to have a square-edged grip, and then, years later the first set of carbon-shafted irons and the first oversized driver, and now the XF Laser RangeFinder. Rangefinders are used in golf to determine the distance between you and your target, which could make all the difference between missing a shot and getting a hole in one. The XF is a laser rangefinder, which provides an instant feedback of distances of up to 600 metres away., A laser rangefinder works by sending out a light beam to the chosen target and then the device will measure the amount of time it takes the beam to hit the target and bounce back. The XF has 6x magnification to allow you to zoom in on your intended target to make sure you get a getting an accurate reading, whilst the vibration lock function helps to give you a steady hand whilst you are taking the measurement.
This rangefinder claims to be accurate within one yard and the digital display provides you with instant feedback that is easy to read, you can also choose between yards and metres on the display. The XF has been designed with an ergonomic shape so it will fit comfortably in your hand as you focus on your target, the cover is water resistant so you don’t have to worry about a little drizzle getting in the way, it also comes with a pouch to store it away, a strap to keep it close to hand on the green and a cleaning cloth to wipe off finger prints. The Pinseeker function enables the device to instantly identify distances from up to 600 metres away, we did find on a couple of occasions we were getting two different readings from the same point but 9 times out of 10 it proved accurate during our testing. However when you compare this to the premium models on the market this is over four times cheaper so considering this we think it’s a good entry-level alternative RRP £109.99
