TCP Black Pedestal Fan

£60

Scorching temperatures, heatwaves, and little air conditioning – the perfect combo to make houses in the UK feel more like saunas than somewhere I want to spend any time. In weather like this, you will find me in one place, and that is about 2 ft from a fan, complaining about the weather. Sadly, far too many fans just push hot air around, or sound like a jet engine when in use. Therefore, I was excited to put the TCP Black Pedestal Fan to the test, to see how powerful the fan was, and whether it really is as whisper-quiet as it claims to be.

The fan comes in a lovely sleek black colourway, with silver accents that look super modern in your home. The base offers a sturdy and wide support, and instead of the 4-pronged legs as you get with most fans, the base is completely flat. I much prefer this style of base, as it takes up less room, and feels like less of a trip hazard compared to the traditional 4-pronged leg design of most pedestal fans.

The fan head is slightly smaller than some traditional fans and instead is wider. This design allows the fan to deliver a powerful airflow, whilst offering great room coverage thanks to the 3D head oscillation. The 3D oscillation allows air to evenly circulate the room, providing enhanced cooling in multiple directions, rather than the traditional side-to-side. I love just how wide a field is covered by the 3D oscillation, as I can set it up and it provides a great cooling breeze across the room rather than a concentrate air flow in one direction alone.

One of the big benefits of the airflow is that across its three fan speed settings, it provides high cooling performance whilst still being super quiet. The fan speed provides up to 50W of power, making it super powerful for a sustained airflow. However, the fan remains remarkably quiet. I was super impressed with just how quiet the fan was, as some I’ve used sound super loud, which makes using them at night difficult – unless you like white noise. Instead, the TCP Black Pedestal Fan is super quiet, even at night and meant I could sleep with a lovely breeze to keep me cool without keeping me awake with the fan's noise.

In terms of control, the fan is super easy to use and features an easy-to-read LED display on the front. However, I love that the fan also comes with a remote so you can control the fan from across the room – perfect for moving it to the perfect position without needing to move from your seat on the sofa! For further adjustment, I was also glad that the fan can be manually adjusted, offering between 81 and 105cm heigh variations. This once again allows you to get the perfect angle and position to keep your room cool and air flowing in your direction. I was also super happy to see that the fan has a programmable timer, so you can set the fan to blow for an hour or so, and then it will automatically turn off. This is perfect for saving energy and helping keep those bills low – whilst still enjoying the cooling for a set period of time.

For the summer heat, the TCP Black Pedestal Fan is a brilliant option that is powerful yet super quiet to use. It’s the perfect option for keeping cool air blowing around your room and a lifesaver at night to help keep you cool for a better night's sleep.

Pros:

  • Powerful fan with three fan settings
  • 3D oscillation for great airflow
  • Super quiet operation
