For those not familiar with Australian mountains, Bogong is Victoria’s highest mountain, Bogong is an aboriginal word for Big-fella making it an appropriate title for Skandika’s 65lt +10 trekking all-rounder backpack. My favourite thing by far with this backpack is that you can access the entire main pocket from the front as well as the top, so you don’t have to think about keeping essentials at the top of the bag or diving in head first to try and get your spare pair of socks that you just know are at the very bottom of the bag. The Bogong is made from Skandika’s Ripstop material making it a durable choice for the outback, it can stand up well against thorny bushes and spikey trees that snatch at you as you walk by and if you happen to get caught in the rain the Bogong has its own integrated rain mac in a pocket on the bottom and water proof zippers to make your belongings stay dry even if you don’t. The back harness is fully adjustable and expandable in size so you can get a precise fit as well a padded hip belt and chest strap to distribute the weight evenly, there are lots of storage features as well as the obvious 75lt (with the extension) main compartment, daisy chain features on the front, convenient organiser pockets inside and outside the top section, bottle holder and if you aren’t carrying at full capacity there are compression straps to slim the whole thing down (straps can also be used to hold small tents or roll mats). The 10lt extension pocket on top can be fully removed so you could use it as a light daypack to take with you on excursions whilst you leave the main bag at base camp, this is a useful little feature which eliminates the need for bringing an extra day bag on your trip. It is a great all-rounder that is suitable for all shapes, sizes and strengths with lots of pockets, loops and straps to organise your gear and a strong durable body it all equates to excellent value for money.
