Distil Union was formed by Nate Justiss and Lindsay Windham in 2011. The micro-collective of designers aims to create products to improve experiences in our everyday lives by self-funding from Kickstarter (six projects to date). The Wally Agent is part of their leather Wally range; this take on the typical billfold aims to offer a slim profile with easy access via the interior pull-tab pockets. It sports four interior pockets plus a section for notes, intended to make the Agent the ideal choice for a front-pocket storage. If you have ever been to a gig, gone travelling or just left the house, you will know that everyone wants to steel your things out of your back pocket. So, unless you want to rock around trying to pull off the casual/please don’t rob me look with your hands jammed into your back pockets, moving your valuables into you front pockets (yes, they aren’t just for loose change and pocket fluff) is a good idea.

So, let’s look at the slim profile. At approximately 15mm when empty, I don’t think it’s breaking any records, but at 100mm x 90mm it is compact. The other big feature is the Wally Pull-Tabs – that idea is that you simply pull on the tab and out pops your card or money, but in practise it is a bit of a fiddly pain which slows you down. The tabs work well enough at popping your cards out, but when you put them back in you need to make sure they are behind the tabs or they won’t move. When putting notes or more flimsy things in there, you need to push the tab in with your fingers.

I like the colour and texture of this wallet, but the stitching isn’t consistently good quality all the way around the edges. It is an ok wallet, but it won’t change your life, and those pull tabs could potentially make your life harder. RRP $79.99
