For many of us, winter is the perfect time to cut back our plants and prune our gardens, ready for the following year. Thus, like many other gardeners and horticulturists, I’ve been venturing into the garden no matter the temperature or weather to try and keep my year-round plants thriving and prepare my garden for the upcoming year. Therefore, a good pair of garden gloves that can keep my hands warm, whilst also protecting them from any spiky plants, is an essential. This is where the FELCO 703W Winter Gloves come in, offering a heavy-duty pair of gloves that are perfect for working in the garden whilst keeping your hands warm and toasty.
The gloves come in a lovely natural tan colour and are made from a hard-wearing leather. On the inside, the gloves feature a lovely, soft, white material designed to keep your hands warm. The leather exterior ensures that the gloves are waterproof, and the interior helps to cushion your hands and keep them warm when the temperatures outside are a little chilly. The gloves are lovely to wear and are a much better option than wool gloves as they can withstand super rainy conditions, whilst providing an extra durable puncture-proof layer thanks to the 3M Thinsulate material.
My only slight complaint is that, unlike some other pairs, the wrist is not elasticated and so they don’t fit snugly around the wrist. This means that not only can a breeze get into the gloves, but if you don’t have the perfect size, they can fall off a little while you’re using them. I’d have liked to see an elasticated cuff to keep heat in better, and to help keep them better in place. However, I was glad to see that the gloves are designed to eventually mould to the shape of your hands, which I think could help them stay in place better over time.
Overall, the FELCO 703W Winter Gloves provide a durable winter glove option designed to support you in your gardening adventures and protect against the weather and cold, as well as from any particularly prickly plants! At just over £40, the gloves are on the higher end of the market for gardening gloves, but if you have a garden-obsessed parent or particularly green-thumbed friend, they would make a great luxury gift option this Christmas.
Pros:
- Hardwearing leather gloves that are puncture-resistant and waterproof
- Lovely soft interior lining for added warmth
- Will adapt to the shape of your hands over time for added comfort
Cons:
- The cuff is not elasticated, which allows heat to escape, so I’d have liked to have seen an elasticated cuff for a more secure feeling and better heat trapping
