Fluidstance Heavy (Starter Pack)

£60.00

It’s no surprise, given the stress of the world, growing financial worries, and never-ending to-do lists, that we can all feel a bit overwhelmed at times. With all these stressors at play, I’ve found myself on countless occasions caught up in my own head. I can often lay awake worrying about work and my to-do lists deep into the early hours of the morning. However, when this begins to impact my sleep, it significantly affects my life and results in decreased productivity at work - which sends me even further into a worry cycle the following night! This cycle is something that Fluidstance wanted to end with the creation of Heavy, a stress management system designed to help carry your thoughts and stress, allowing you to focus on your own rest and recovery.

Heavy Works by having a consistent reflection ritual at the end of the day, where you write down all the things that feel heavy at that moment and are causing a source of stress in your current state. In turn, you also then write down a few light things which brought happiness today or delight during the day. You then take the rock from the set place it down over the card on the wooden block, and place this on your desk or nightstand. The rock is a physical symbol of your worry, or a placeholder so that you can separate yourself from these stressors to let yourself rest and recuperate in the evenings. The ritual of doing this helps to provide a physical act that can allow your mind to get space from the worries in your head, without simply forgetting about them – which is difficult enough to do anyway. Instead, the rock symbolises the stressors that you’re physically and symbolically putting down outside of yourself for the night, so you can rest knowing your worries are not forgotten but being held with importance for when you’re ready to face them after some much-needed sleep.

I love the concept of Heavy, as it’s not often you see a company really focus on this need for balance between mind and body. However, for Fluidstance, this is the essence of its operations to enhance the symbiotic relationship between the mind and body to find a flow between business and consciousness. The idea of Heavy is so simple but so effective. With a few moments to reflect each evening to get the heavy thoughts out of your mind, on a bit of paper and held within the rock, it provides a weird sense of relief.

The Heavy does take a little getting used to and I will admit I had a little scepticism about its effectiveness. How much could a rock solve my stresses? But the point is that the rock doesn’t solve them but forms a physical action to help you reflect and regulate the stressors of the day in a healthy and cathartic form. Whilst, no, your stresses are not gone and your to-do list hasn’t been magically done, I like the ability to take a few moments for myself to try and alleviate the all-consuming stress of day-to-day life through Heavy. I do think if it's something you stick to you’re likely to have the best success as it becomes a therapeutic ritual at the end of the day to help decompress. However, it does take a little focus and commitment to the ritual to reap the benefits of Heavy – but if this is something you’re willing to do, it could be a great solution.

Whether you’re an entrepreneur with what feels like the weight of the world on your shoulders, a parent trying to struggle with your busy kids’ schedule whilst maintaining the house, or a creative who wants to help reflect on the day, Heavy is a great go-to de-stressing tool. From the lovely wooden case to the unique rock that sits atop it, it not only helps with stress management, but it looks great on your desk or nightstand too. If you’re regularly lying awake at night worrying about the day ahead, try out Heavy and see if the simple act of writing down your worries and placing them on hold for the evening can help you clear the mental clutter.

Pros:

  • Lovely wooden case and shiny rock that looks great
  • The starter pack comes with 30 ritual cards and pencils to help you write down heavy and light moments from the day – but these will need to be repurchased to fit into the wooden case
  • Mental health-focused ritual to help reduce stress and sleepless nights worrying

Cons:

  • Will take some practice and commitment to make the Heavy an effective part of your routine
  • It is quite pricey for what it is – and it may not be as effective for everyone so may be a little pricey if people don’t find the ritual concept helpful to them
