Coffee is an essential part of my morning routine that keeps me functioning throughout the day. However, in busy mornings when I’m trying to get out the door or to my desk, having a reliable coffee machine that can do most of the work for me is essential. Therefore, I was thrilled to put the Melitta Optima Timer Filter Coffee Machine to the test, which is designed to deliver that perfect cup of coffee any time of the day.

The Melitta Optima Timer filter coffee machine is designed to deliver coffee when it suits you and your schedule most, thanks to its built-in timer function. The machine has a handy little LED display screen, where you can adjust the timer setting to deliver coffee at the time that suits you. This is perfect for setting up the night before and scheduling it to turn on at 7 am. The timer setting will then power on the machine at 7 am and start brewing your coffee so there’s a lovely pot of coffee ready for you just before you head out the door. Plus, is there any better smell than freshly brewed coffee to start your day? And, especially when you didn’t have to get up early to ensure it's ready for when you begin work!

However, you don’t have to worry about a complicated set-up the night before either; you just fill up the water tank, put your filter into the hinged filter holder and add in your favourite ground coffee. The filter holder uses Melitta 102-size filters, which offer around 2 full cups of coffee at a time and are designed with micro-perforations for a balanced flavour extraction. Then, set the timer using the front display and buttons, and ensure the jug is under the machine. You can then go to bed knowing you’ll wake up to freshly brewed coffee in the morning. And should you want a little extra sleep, the Melitta Optima Timer filter coffee machine even has a ‘keep warm’ function, which will keep the coffee in the jug warm for anywhere from 30 to 2 hours depending on the setting you choose, so you always have warm coffee ready to go – even when the morning routine gets a bit hectic!

However, one of the key things you have to worry about when it comes to your coffee machine is the limescale build-up due to hard water, and so it even comes with a 3-in-1 Calc Protection setting which is designed to help keep your machine operating at its best, offering descaling for the best tasting coffee with each use. In fact, for this, you can program the water hardness that you’re putting into the machine to help better manage the calcification needs, and when the unit needs de-scaling, the Optima Timer Filter Coffee Machine will alert you with the ‘CALC’ light on the front.
