RockIt Rising Star

A great night’s sleep sets us up for a good day, but unfortunately, for kids, falling asleep and staying asleep can be a real struggle. This often leads to them getting up throughout the night. However, to tackle this issue, RockIt has introduced its Rising Start sleep training clock, which helps your child know when it's bedtime and when it's time to wake up through an innovative light and reward system.

The Rising Star combines a physical light and reward system to help encourage your child to get a better sleep by providing a clear visual of when it's nighttime and when it's time to get up. It achieves this through a traffic light colour system that changes from red to amber, and then to green. When the star glows red, this symbolises to your child that it is nighttime, and so, should they wake up in the middle of the night, they can see the star and know it's time to go back to sleep. The star will then change to amber to symbolise that it is nearly time to get up, and then it will turn green when it is time to get up. This provides a super simple system that kids can understand, to hopefully help them stay in bed for longer – and help you not get woken up at 5 am when they think it's morning!

To help reinforce the system, the Rising Star also comes with a strap which is designed to hold the star, allowing you to move it up a spot each night towards a reward. The strap features a sticker holder at the top, and if your child successfully stays in bed until the light turns green all week, they get the star sticker. This adds an extra bit of positive reinforcement, and the sticker can even be added to a star chart for long-term sleep training. For this, the Rising Star comes with 30 star stickers, but these can easily be replaced or swapped out for a personalised reward such as going to the park or a sweet treat, which will help encourage them to stick to the Rising Star’s traffic light system. Plus, for a lovely added touch, when the Rising Star reaches the top of the strap, it will show a rainbow of lights, which adds to the reward and helps your child know they are getting a reward for great sleep!

Thankfully for parents, the Rising Star is super easy to set up and just needs you to set the time on the back of the star, and then set the wake-up time. The amber light will turn on 30 minutes before the green light, but this can also be adjusted up to 60 minutes before, so you can help set it to a mode that will best help your child and their sleeping habits. Plus, the Rising Star comes with an easy-to-install wall mount that just sticks to the wall (it can also be mounted with a screw), and then the strap just clips into it. Just make sure the strap is located out of the reach of your kids!

However, I like that the Rising Star doesn’t have to be used with the wall mount at all, and instead it can just be placed on your child’s bedside table or somewhere in their room that it's visible from their bed, so that they can easily see what time of the night it is. This makes the Rising Star a great option when on the go, or whilst on holiday, because it doesn’t need to be installed and instead can just be used as a night light that helps them know whether they should be asleep or not.

Image of 4 different images showing a child slowly waking up, with the Rising Star sleep training clock on the wall. The star changes from red, to amber and then green across the images. The final image shows the Rising Star product held in a persons hand.

I was also glad to see that the Rising Star is rechargeable, so you don’t have to worry about replacing batteries to use it, and a single charge lasts 2-3 weeks depending on use. When you do come to charging, just note that for safety it cannot be used whilst charging, so make sure you get it charged before bedtime! To use the Rising Star each day, you just press the front lens of the star to begin the nightlight, which will then stay red but dimmed throughout the night until the amber and green lights are set to turn on. However, should you want to turn the light off at any time, you just double-tap the star.

The Rising Star from RockIt provides a super simple and easy-to-use system that is designed to help your children stay asleep longer. Through the traffic light system, matched with the rewards, the Rising Star is a great way to positively reward your child as you help them to establish a better sleep routine to help them (and you) get a better night's sleep!
