With so many battery-operated speakers out there, it is easy to forget the mains powered products are still an option and although they are not as portable, you don’t have to worry about losing power and you will get to enjoy the sound from a more reliable energy source. Although the Edifier R1010BT use a traditional plug-in power source they offer the modern connectivity option by including Bluetooth as well as 3.5mm to RCA and 3.5mm AUX allowing you to choose between the quality of wired sound and the convenience of wireless audio, you can even connect two Bluetooth devices at the same time. The two speakers are connected via a speaker wire which is a good length to provide you with more location option and ensure you have the same quality produced by both speakers and the built-in amplifier eliminates need for amplifier/receiver. These are standing only speakers there is no option to wall mount them included, they are available in either a black finish or brown (which we received) with grey detail and a bright yellow surprise under the soft grill, with the grill removed they look much more attractive and you will need to remove one of them to see the status indicator light.
There is a small remote included, the design of the speakers isn’t for me, but some might like it, however it could have a cleaner finish in parts, but the most important element is the sound. The sound is excellent, even over a Bluetooth connection, for starter these speakers are LOUD, you can play with the bass and volume via the knobs at the back of unit, you can drop the volume down, but it doesn’t get that quiet before it drops off to silence. The quality of audio you get from R1010BT is a pleasure to listen too, with 4” bass drivers and 3/4” silk-diaphragm tweeter drivers, you get a rich detailed sound the clean treble, warm mid tones and thick bass that gets you in the middle of your body, it easily fills up the room for a completely immersive experience. The sound quality would lead me to buy these bookshelf speakers however the design of the Brown model would put me off, however I would happily settle for the Black version. RRP £79.99
