iStorage is a brand we know and love for data encryption and data security. Each unit or device they create is made with the security of your data in mind, and the diskAshur DT3 is no exception. The unit delivers a state-of-the-art desktop HDD that is setting a new benchmark in the world of data security. The HDD brings together all the things we’ve loved about previous data security systems from iStorage, but has advanced them in the new diskAshur DT3 unit that is leading the way, now outpacing the speeds of the diskAshur DT2 range.

Designed with enhanced portability and security in mind, the diskAshur DT3 provides a sleek and user-friendly encryption device, supported by next-level security to keep your personal data safe. The hard drive plugs straight into your laptop or computer, via the included USB-A or USB-C cables. Once plugged in, you just put in your configured PIN password and all your data on the device is decrypted and made available to you. Once unplugged, the diskAshur DT3 will encrypt all the data on the unit to keep it safe. For this reason, the diskAshur DT3 is an encrypted TAA-compliant drive that is redefining the standard for securing your personal data.

For encryption, the diskAshur DT3 utilises a new FIPS 140-3 level 3 validation standard and, following a successful evaluation and issuance of the CAVP certificates, is certified with the latest U.S. government computer security standards for cryptographic modules. This high level of data security ensures that all your data on the hard drive is backed by leading certifications in the data security industry. Additionally, the drive features a secure microprocessor which is certified to Common Criteria EAL5+, along with a distinctive flash lock mechanism, and provides defence against potential attacks.

I love how simple the diskAshur DT3 is to use, as you just need to remember your password and you’re into the unit and can access all your files. I like that the unit doesn’t come with a generic PIN password built in; rather, you have to configure your own PIN, which can be between 8-64 digits, before you can even use the unit. Once this has been configured, you’re the only one who knows the password to the hard drive, and should someone try and guess the password, after 10 consecutive incorrect PIN entries, the PIN will be removed, and only the admin PIN can be used to access the hard drive. If this is also entered incorrectly 10 consecutive times, all data on the unit will be lost, and only reconfiguration will allow you to access the unit, but all the previous data will be wiped. This ensures the top level of security for you information – just be sure not to forget your PIN!

The entire unit is made to be super seamless, and so the only way to access the internal components would be to break it open, which would highlight any attempt to tamper with the unit and attempts to access your data. However, should someone open up the unit, all the components are covered in a layer of durable epoxy resin for a nice added touch for security against physical attacks on the device. Even the durability of the keypad has been taken into consideration, with the keys made from epoxy resin to prevent them from showing wear, which could alert a hacker to frequently used keys. Plus, they’re backlit so you can see them even in a low-light office!

Overall, with three encryption modes, from the AES-XTS 256-bit default mode to the optional AES-ECB 256-bit and AES-CBC 256-bit modes, the entire system's patented technology delivers everything you could need from a top-quality HDD to keep your information safe and protected. With the cables and software to support all the latest PCs and Desktops, the diskAshur DT3 provides you with the peace of mind that your data and files are protected when using the unit. If you’re on the hunt for a data security system that is super easy to use, but not easy for hackers to get into, then the diskAshur DT3 is an excellent choice.
