The Kurio Tab Advance is a tablet specifically designed for children. Available in two gender-reinforcing colours Pink or Blue, but other skins are available online. It comes with 40 preloaded educational and entertaining apps and access to Google Play.
This 16GB Android tablet includes a full year’s access to weekly educational apps (STEM based, or ‘science, technology, engineering & mechanical’). It also features Coding Apps, a Blue light protection, Android 6.0 Marshmallow and a Splash proof bumper. Parents and guardians have the ability to control access and set web filters through ‘Kurio Genius’, which can filter over 18 billion websites. The tablet has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and the battery can produce up to seven hours of play time depending on usage. There are options for time control that limits the length of time it can be used for, in order prevent losing your child for hours to the screen with the Daily Play Time & Learning Time and Maximum Use Time Session features.
If you are lucky enough to be around children that know how to share, you can set up to eight different profiles all with customised web filters and parental controls and the ability to effortlessly block any unwanted apps. The tablet has a 7-inch screen that provides a clear image, rear and front facing cameras, fingerprint recognition, comes loaded with exclusive Kurio Motion Gaming, up to 32gb SD card compatibility, and a USB port. The Kurio Advance is ready to play straight out of the box, but it does take a long time to switch on and load up. The thick silicone case provides ample protection but lacks a handle or any easy hold for little hands.
If your little one is constantly trying to play with your phone or tablet then the Kurio Advance is a good, low-budget option for getting them one of their own whilst maintaining full control of what apps and websites they can access, and even managing to sneak in some education at the same time!
