These glasses are what the seven-year-old me dreamt that everyone in the future would be wearing (I’m still waiting for hologram messaging, but we are getting there). The SunnyCam Xtreme Edition  are water resistant 1080p POV recording glasses, charged via micro USB. These glasses are easy to use: turn them on by holding down the power button, and a vibration indicator and red light flashing on the inside of the frame will let you know that it’s active. As well as recording video, the glasses can be used to take a photo whilst the camera is still recording - simply press the power button once and the light will flash blue to indicate the photo has been taken.

The camera is integrated into the frame right between the eyes for a true point of view shot. They have a built in 16GB memory that can hold up to three hours’ video footage, but you will only get about an hours’ worth of recording time per charge, which isn’t very long. The Xtreme Edition is the world’s first water resistant video eyewear with IP66 rating, and it also has a Grilamid TR90 high impact resistant frame that is designed to handle the extreme, which you wouldn’t necessarily expect, due to the lightweight plastic feel of the frame. The lenses on the frame are interchangeable: the Photochromic Lenses, Ice Mirrored Lenses and Ice Mirrored Lenses are available at an extra cost, but it comes with Polarized and Clear lenses. The Polarized lenses popped out easily, but the clear ones were tricky to get in and out to the point that I was worried I was going to break them, and the instruction manual offers no advice on the best way to go about it.

So, what did we think? Well, I love that you don’t need to stick mounts on helmets or dashboards or attempt to get a good angle with a chest harness, and the video quality is good in daylight, but it is a bit too dark in low light. The overall look is a bit clumpy for my taste, and the frame is in your peripheral vision, which isn’t good for activities like cycling or other sports. They also look really ugly in the clear lenses - I don’t think even Bono would put them on his face.

The Sunnycam Xtreme Edition are good for any activities that are less than an hour long, but you won’t be winning any awards for style. RRP £149.99
