Wireless speakers are available in all sorts of designs now, from the sleek to the novel, but TEKNOFUN has teamed up with The Pokémon Company to bring you something you never knew you always needed – the Poké Ball speaker.

Unlike replicas such as remote-control magic wands or FM Radio Pip-Boys, a music-playing Poké Ball doesn't bring an in-universe aspect of Poké Balls to life in any way, which is often one of the joys of such purchases – or at least, it’s why I get excited about them. A Pokédex, at a pinch, could be associated with playing music, but piping out tunes isn’t something a Poké Ball has ever been known for. Still, that prop-realism is only one of the many draws for fans when it comes to replica merch, and it can’t be denied that this thing looks like a Poké Ball. Attention to detail has been paid in little elements such as the lipped edge along the red and white sections, and the scale is pretty spot-on, too.

As it is wireless, you can easily carry your Poké Ball speaker around, and there’s definitely an element of satisfaction in whipping it out of your bag like you’re a wandering Pokémon trainer. The quality of the sound is good, but it isn’t going to be the greatest speaker you’ve ever used. However, it’s definitely novel and a lot of fun.

The speaker is rechargeable through a micro USB cable, and it has an SD card slot, a micro USB port and a 3.5 mm AUX-input for linking up to your music. This is a fun purchase for both kids and adults alike – let's face it, Pokémon isn’t going anywhere any time soon!
