We have been very impressed by helmets from MET in the past, so I was eager to try the MET Terranova – a nifty looking piece of gear designed for All-Mountain and Trail riders. This helmet has a fun, streamlined design with an adjustable visor that has you feeling ready to go do an action montage. We received the vibrant Orange & Black design, which as well as making you feel like a Power Ranger has the important bonus of high visibility. The other colour combinations are Grey & Petrol Blue, Petrol Blue & Lime Green, Red & Black, Black & Red and plain Black, all of which look great in their own ways, depending on your personal taste.

So, why is this helmet suitable for All-Mountain and Trail riding – two kinds of ride that require reliable safety measures? First off, it offers more coverage that a standard design, hence its fun and unique shape. As well as thinking about safety, this shape has also taken your comfort into consideration. In the name of both goals, the helmet has been designed with a thorough fitting system: an all-round belt offers 360° adjustment circumference-wise, whilst there are four settings for adjusting vertically. The internal padding was great, providing a comfortable fit that I also trusted to be secure, and the helmet even accommodates for details like keeping your glasses/shades in place or leaving space at the back for a ponytail without losing out on grip.

The MET Terranova is made from an in-mould polycarbonate shell with an EPS liner. The padding on the inside can, very helpfully, be removed and hand-washed, and I was happy to find that it breathes extremely easily when on. This is partly due to the number of holes in the shell, and also to internal airway channels that funnel air around your head whilst biking. When you’re speeding along, you want to feel the wind in your hair! (And, more importantly, not overheat). The adjustable visor gives you sunlight protection as and when you need it, which can be very important on those high-up trails.

The MET Terranova comes in three sizes: Small (52/56 cm), Medium (56/58 cm) or Large (58/61cm), weighing 315g, 335g or 355g respectively. It feels trustworthy, looks fun, and has all the certifications it could need. MET have never steered us wrong, and this looks like another fantastic purchase for true cycling enthusiasts.
