When you’re focusing during a dark cycle ride, repeatedly adjusting your bike’s front light might not be what you want to focus on. The See.Sense BEAM uses sensors and smart technology to detect the road and adjust your front light for you, so you can safely concentrate on the other elements of your ride.

With up to 1000 lumens of brightness, this front light can illuminate your way even on the darkest roads. However, you don’t always need that much light-power, which is why the BEAM it is adjustable. It is possible to make these adjustments manually - at its full 1000 lumens, the light’s battery can survive for two hours; at 450 lumens, it can last for four hours; at 250 lumens, 6 hours. However, there is also the Adaptive Mode, where the BEAM puts its smart technology to use and adjusts the light for you depending on your needs moment by moment: this mode can last for up to 30 hours, depending what light levels are needed when, including a flashing bulb at moments when you need high visibility. This flashing light kicks in whenever the See.Sense detects that you are at a junction or roundabout – the first light of its kind to do so.

Have we mentioned that this light is smart? If its battery drops below 20%, it even warns you and reduces its light levels to give you a final hour of light, so you should never be caught out and left in the dark. It also lowers your light levels when it detects that you’re in an urban area or cycling uphill, and therefore don’t need such a strong beam. With the BEAM monitoring and adjusting for you, you can conserve your battery life intelligently without needing to constantly fidget during your ride.

This light even comes with an app – what doesn’t, these days? - that can be used for extra features such as ride stats and light customisation, as well as extremely useful features such as crash and theft alerts.

The BEAM comes with everything you need to mount it to your bike: a handlebar mount, an action camera style mount, three straps, a USB cable and an Allen key. It can be mounted above or below your bars using either of the two mounts, which I appreciated, as I like to have clear, uncluttered handlebars.

Overall, this light is really easy to attach and use, and makes a huge difference to your ride. Having one less thing to think about as you cycle makes your journey that bit safer, and knowing that your light levels will conserve themselves when you need, and send flashed warnings to other road users when you need, is a huge comfort. This is cheaper than most smart helmets and makes similar steps for your safety – I definitely wouldn’t want to go back to regular lights now that I’ve got this.
