Don’t let bad weather stop you again!!! With the Kaldbakur jacket from 66 Degrees North, it was love at first sight, a rare experience for me that usually only happens around cake. The majority of my wardrobe is black, it’s a great colour, it goes with everything and matches my soul so it was great to see a coat available in Black, it is also available in Storm Blue for better visibility, not a hint of pink or purple in sight, yes! The Kaldbakur is versatile jacket with a slim fitted profile and no bulk to battle, it is extremely light and with GORE-TEX technology, it is also both waterproof and windproof whilst still retaining breathability.

To ensure you stay dry the waterproofing has minimum 28.000 mm, the seams are all taped up, even the pockets have water repellent Aquaguard zippers to keep your possessions dry. Whether you are hiking, running, walking the dog, commuting to work or shopping around the city the Kaldbakur has got you covered. If the weather clears up it won’t add any extra to your pack weight and GORE-TEX Paclite 100% Polyamide folds up into an impressively compact piece. To keep things streamline, if you continue to wear it once the rain has stopped you can roll the hood up, tuck it back into it collar and zip it closed. With the hood tucked away the collar stands up by itself which looks good but also works as a buffer/scarf when the jacket if fully zipped up by hugging snuggly around the neck.

The hood has 3 points of adjustment, it is quite spacious, so I could even wear it without removing my woolly hat with unnecessarily large bobble on, it has an integrated peak that protects the face well without obscuring too much of the peripheral. The Kaldbakur has a soft material around the collar as well as on the zip guard which is comfortable against the skin, on the outside there is a placket with magnetic closure that I got really excited about, this means you don’t need to press poppers into you face for closure or endure the Velcro ripping next you your ear over and over again, this thoughtful detail is one of the reasons I love the Kaldbakur. Other useful additions are the Peek-a-boo opening at back for extra air ventilation detailed with reflective flap, the sleeve cuff is longer at front for protecting the back of the hand whilst allow the fingers full movement and access, there is high quality Velcro adjustment straps for a form fit and there is a reflective film around chest pocket for increased visibility. When purchasing it is worth ordering a size larger than you are used to as this line seems to run a little small and to ensure room for layering up underneath. The Kaldbakur is an excellent high performing jacket, it will keep you dry without restriction, it achieves good levels of ventilation to keep you comfortable and looks sharp at the same time whether you are up a mountain or headed to the pub.
