Scarpa was founded in 1939 by Rupert Edward Cecil Lee Guinness, 2nd Earl of Iveagh, an Anglo-Irish businessman. You may recognise this name as the man who founded of Guinness Brewing Company and the Guinness Book of Records. This guy had his finger in many pies. Although the brand name sounds like a clever rugged word it is actually an acronym for ‘Calzaturieri Asolani Riuniti Pedemontana Anonima’, which translates to the ‘Association of Footwear Manufacturers from the mountain area of Asolo’, which is not quite as catchy -  I can see why he shortened it.

The Trek GTX is a men’s hiking and trekking boot, exclusively available in Cotswold Outdoors store and comes in sizes 7-14. Designed to keep your feet protected and secure during long walks on complex terrain, formed from an ergonomic last which has been specifically created for those with a low foot volume and slimmer heel, if you’ve ever been told you have narrow feet, well this is could be the shoe for you. The Trek GTX uses a tough and durable, 1.8 mm Oiled Nubuck full grain leather upper, which has been finely sanded for a textured finish, which not only looks great but protects the foot from the elements, the strong protective toe rand sits around the edge of the boot for protection against scuffs and scrapes when trekking through the craggiest terrain.

The midsole is a Comfort Flex Plus is formed from nylon and moulded to provide minimum flex in the heel area but give a comfortable flex in the forefoot area making it ideal for walking and trekking. The GORE-TEX lining keeps your foot nicely insulted and comfortable on colder days, at the same time if your feet get too warm the lining allows the moisture to escape from the boot without letting a single drop sneak into the boot. However, on hot days your feet will get quite warm so be prepared with a change of socks at the end of your trek. The sole is a Vibram Biometric Fly which encourages a natural foot roll and provides excellent traction and grip on a variety of surfaces.
