There are tents and then there is the Nimbus 12. The tent itself is enormous, fitting 9-12 people with 3 separate sleeping compartments which fits 3 in 2 of the pops and 6 in the larger section.

When it first arrived at the GadgetHead HQ it was rather intimidating, at 36.5kg it is certainly a car camping sort of tent, in fact it ended up going in our friend’s van as it didn’t leave much room in our Corsa for camping essentials (like beer). We usually use a 4man pop up tent when we go away, this made the prospect of assembling the Nimbus 12 a daunting one. A few of our friends shared the tent with us so we roped them into helping and by carefully following the instructions (the poles are helpfully colour coded) the process was really simple. We used the tent at a spacious campsite, at more organised sites I would recommend hiring 2 pitches. Without the rope the tent measures up at 630 x 760 cm (many pitches are approximately 600x600cm).

The Skandika Nimbus 12 is totally worth the extra money, the tent is roomy and will protect you from all the elements, with a 5,000mm water column (the highest of any family tent) and fully waterproof sealed seams there was no chance of the summer showers penetrating the exterior and it faired really well on a particularly windy night (a little too well as all 15 campmates bundled in too). At its highest point the Nimbus 12 is 200cm so unless you are a giant you can comfortably stand up with plenty of room for activities. The living area has a detached ground sheet and the wall to the porch can be removed giving you an even larger space (we kept it down to use as a living space but it could easily be left out to store bikes etc.)

Overall, the tent provided us with plenty of space and storage, with organiser pockets and hooks coming in handy. Would recommend to large groups or family getaways. RRP £659
