If you haven’t played with a GolfBuddy before it could really be a game changer for you, of course it isn’t for everyone but it can make the game faster and more entertaining. The LR5 is a light weight laser range finder that will accurately judge distances on the range and let you choose your club accordingly. At first look it feels a strongly constructed piece of kit having said that the LR5 isn’t heavy, it only weighs 8oz/0.5lb, it looks eye-catching too with blue detailing. The case is dust and water resistant so if you get caught in some bad weather (or in a dust storm) there will be no need to worry and for added protection it comes with a handy hard case, similar to that of a digital camera. the LR5 has 3 targeting modes, Standard provides a distance to the target, Scan Mode continually scans for 10 seconds to show distances to varying of targets and the Pin Mode continually scans for 10 seconds to show distances to varying of targets and displays the distance to the closest target. The GolfBuddy switches on and off with ease but if you forget to switch it off it will automatically switch off after being idle for 10 seconds saving your battery, the battery itself will give you up to 5000 uses, it takes one CR2 3V Lithium battery which comes included (The battery slots in easily without the need of digging out that tiny screwdriver). Returning to the power down after 10 seconds feature this is almost too short a time, there were times that it had switched before we took a reading because we took too long, especially whilst learning to use it, an option to set this to a time of your choosing would be great. The GolfBuddy LR5 6x magnification offers clear readings to an accuracy of +/- 1 yard, we found it was as accurate as it claimed, we also believe it is good value for money and a great place to start if you are after an accurate and versatile laser range finder.
