The Vaypor+ from Bont tries to combine luxury with strength when designing this technical cycling shoe, featuring the strength of a kangaroo leather upper, soft cow hide internal lining and Bont Cycling’s carbon technology to ensure the highest strength-to-weight ratio and lowest stack height. This shoe is available in white, black, blue, green, brown and orange, and in standard, wide, narrow and Asian fit as well as a Full Custom option.
The Vaypor+ features BOA’s IP1 Dual directional dial with quick release functionality to gain a precision fit and allow for a quick release. The upper, made from kangaroo leather, provides a flexible but tough shoe. This leather is well known for high strength whilst retaining a light weight. The Vaypor+ has a unidirectional monocoque chassis with a matt finish, and has been upgraded to improve grip and assist cleat adjustment. There is plenty of ventilation, with integrated air vents on the front bumper that directs airflow into the shoe, along with a perforated upper and tongue to allow your foot to breath as much as possible.
The Vaypor+ has anti-stretch technology in the form of an added material, similar to the characteristics of Kevlar, between the upper and lining that prevents the shoe from stretching over time. This layer also assists in pedalling by maintaining a supportive structure over the top of the foot in the upward part of the pedal stroke. This shoe is comfortable, with a closed cell memory foam that will not soak up water and a TPU Toe protector that protects the front area of the shoe from wheel rub. The Medial Longitudinal Arch Support helps to prevent the over-pronation of feet, one of the main causes for incorrect tracking of knees, which in turn can result in knee injuries and even back pain. The Vaypor+ shoes are anatomically shaped with an anatomical heel cup to keep your foot in the most efficient position and minimise injury risk.
The base of the shoe is moldable which means all stiff areas of the shoe can be molded in a standard oven. That said, you do not need to mold your shoes if they fit you straight out of the box. To mold your shoes, remove any cleats, laces or cleat mounting screws and innersole before molding. Failure to remove the innersole can result in it becoming deformed by the heat. Pre heat the oven to 70C/160F. Place the shoe in the oven for 20 minutes. Let them cool a little and test the shoe temperature with your hand before placing your feet in the shoes. Tighten the straps and allow to cool. If you have any lumps or bunions on your feet or if there are any areas causing discomfort, while the shoe is hot you can use the round end of a screwdriver to press out any part of the boot. You can heat mold the shoes as many times as you like.
Overall, we found the Vaypor+ an exceptional, technical shoe - the anatomical design helps you to perform at your best and the BOA IP1 dials allow for quick and precise adjustments. RRP £349.99
