The RN-QT3 from RevoNext are available in three designs, Matte Black, Grey Space and Red, they have an almost steampunk looks which creates a unique style, the earbuds have a strong outer casing made from aluminium alloy but from the look alone they don’t strike you as comfortable. In the box you get the Quad Drivers In-Ear Headphones three pairs of Silicone Ear Tips (S, M, L) the 3.5MM 0.78mm 2 pin Detachable Cable and a User Manual. These earphones had me a little confused, the ear buds are detachable from the cable, this you make sense if there was an included case that was configured to accommodate this, there is not. It would also make sense if they had the option of Bluetooth wireless connectivity, but they don’t, it left us a little stumped as to why you would want to continually risk damaging these delicate little pins and having to repeat the fiddly process of inserting them (this is not a large hand or short sighted friendly routine).

The cable is thin and springs about in different directions due to all the kinks in it, but it untangles easily which is always a plus, however the cable does cause some microphonics (when you can hear the cable rubbing on you clothing or skin through the ear pieces). These earbuds are Quad Driver headphones which consist of two balanced armatures and double dynamic drivers, this resulted in some decent audio, the bass was strong and rounded without being too overbearing, the mid-tone was pleasant but came across a little flat compared the base whilst the treble was cleared it was sharp at louder volumes which can become irritating when listening to treble heavy genres like Jazz or Classical for example, they do punch out some good volume however at higher levels a slight hiss was noticeable when listening to audio tapes or gentle indie.

You could get away with avoiding the hiss if the noise cancellation performed better as you wouldn’t need to bring up the levels so much in nosier environments. That brings us to the last thing, comfort, the QT3 wire wraps around the back of the ear (there is a rumour all wired headphones should be worn this way) this means you will need to ensure the wire is connected the right way round so the ergonomic shape conforms to your ear. The earbuds themselves are uncomfortable, there’s no other way to say it, they feel, too large, too heavy and have too many sharp edges to remain comfortable for long. Unless you are a big fan of the brand, or prefer style over of function we think you can find better quality and comfort in a similar or lower price range. RRP £84
