Since 2004, Zuca have been producing bags to help keep travellers organised like never before, with multiple individual pouches and pockets to arrange your gear. The Zuca Pro Travel has a pocket for everything that meets FAA specifications for carry-on baggage, with dimensions of 19.5"H x 10"W x 13.5"D (always check individual airline specifications for carry-on dimensions).
Here is a quick breakdown of the colour coded pouches: there are five in total, and they stack on top of each other like draws - two red (5"x 8"x 10.5"), one blue (3"x 8"x 10.5"), one orange (2"x 8"x 9.5") and one green (3"x 8"x 10.5"), plus a clear TSA-compliant toiletry bag (1 quart). Why there are two red pouches whilst the rest are different colours, I do not know - surely it makes things more confusing than having five different colours, but what do I know?
The Pro Travel comes with a matching Travel Cover for some added protection if your bag gets checked-in and helps to deter thieves away from all those inviting zips. This case comes in a whopping eleven different colours, and the aluminium frame comes in either black or silver. The frame is strong and is rated to safely support up to 300 lbs so, weight depending, you could sit on it whilst you wait to board or one of the other hundreds of reasons you end up waiting around in an airport. However, this frame has its downsides - I find that handling the case is more difficult with it, as there are lots of hard corners to bang into knees or shins, and the finish on some of the edges is quite rough, making it uncomfortable to handle at times. The frame also makes the case really heavy; at just shy of 5.5kg when empty, once full that can quickly add up to a large amount of weight to lift above your head in the cabin.
The 4" shock-absorbing polyurethane wheels provide a smooth and silent ride, and the large size means you aren’t at risk of scratching the bag on unsmooth surfaces. The Pro Travel also has a 41" telescoping handle and lots more pockets around the bag, including an expanding waterproof pocket in the door. The bag holds 32L in total. Being a little OCD around the edges, I love all the individual colour coded pouches and organising pockets. However, being a massive klutz, I can see myself doing either someone else or myself real damage with the frame, but then I’m left torn again because I love to be able to park my backside at any opportunity.
I think this is quite a niche product, but if you regularly travel to conventions or you are a make-up artist or any profession that involves lots of small accessories, this could be the answer to all your problems. RRP £295
