I can already see my dad rolling his eyes at this one but I don’t care, there are two types of gardeners, people like my old man who can grow anything, anywhere and then people like me who can’t keep a cactus alive. The Click & Grow is aimed at the latter type, with a simple idea that can turn the gloomiest of places into a secret garden and the most hapless gardeners into a budding Alan Titchmarsh. In the smartly packaged box you get three Basil cartridges, the Click & Grow Smart Garden with a lamp that is designed specifically for faster germination with optimum spectra at 10,000 Lux.
The lamp can be adjusted to three different heights to allow for plant growth and has a built in timer that runs for 16 hours a day to encourage the fastest growth. The cartridges sit in a large reservoir that holds up to a months’ worth of water, so there is no need to worry about forgetting to water them, the seeds in the cartridges are of a professional grade with 100% germination rate so nothing is wasted, these seeds sit in Click & Grows Smart Soil that release nutrients, oxygen and water when your plants need it without the use of pesticides, fungicides, insecticides, plant hormones or any other nasties.
The attention to detail is impressive with even the use of smart power that consumes a mere 6 watts, roughly £2.10 of electricity per year, all this clever tech allows you to simply pop the cartridges in, fill with water and plug in and that’s it. You can’t set the timer yourself so to line up the 16hours of light you need to plug it in at the right time, I happened to get up to use the bathroom at 5am the other morning so I made a point of unplugging it and then plugging it back in again so It will switch off at 11pm and the light wouldn’t disturb us at night and that is probably the only thing I had to do the rest was up to the Smart Garden. It has been an absolute joy watching these little seeds germinate then sprout and grow in my office which might as well be underground for the amount out of sunlight I get in there and I can’t wait to experiment further with flowers and different herbs.
