I am aware that these are made for children but my goodness are they addictive, the joy is in their simplicity, Magna Tiles are colourful, translucent, small hand friendly, plastic shapes with magnets along the sides that allow you to connect them together to produce 2D and 3D shapes. Suitable for children ages 3+ it encourages creativity as well as critical thinking and stimulates the right side of the brain, it can help children learn about shapes, numbers and colours whilst having fun. Not only did these entertain the grown-ups but they provided hours of amusement with our test subjects aged 5-8 they played with the Magna Tiles individually and worked together to create structures, we had competitions on who can make the tallest tower and the biggest 3D shape and they couldn’t get enough.

One thing that could put me off getting these is the price, but when you compare it to another well known building block brand that rhymes with Jego it isn’t that that high, plus it is easier and quicker to put together and pull apart. It was great to see the kids get so excited with something that doesn’t need batteries or charging and gets them interacting with each other rather than locked on to a screen, it was clear they felt a sense of accomplishment when they built something too and couldn’t wait to show us before they pulled it all apart and started again.
