Topo Designs are good a producing bags that stand out from the crowd and the Daypack is no different, it is available in nine bold designs with Navy, Olive, Khaki, Clay, Ex-Pac Black/Ballistic Black, Navy/Brown Leather, Red/Khaki Leather, Storm/Khaki Leather and Ballistic Black/Black Leather. With so many colours to choose from you can pick something subtle or go for one of the brighter more colourful options. The Daypack is made from a water repellent 1000D Cordura and a 420D nylon pack cloth liner, it measures up a 13inch (W) x 19inch (H) x 8inch (D), it weighs 23.04 oz (Leather 27.36 oz/ Ballistic 32.8 oz) and gives you 20L capacity, making it ideal for daytrips, work and overnight stays.
All Topo’s Daypacks are handmade in Colorado, USA, the 1000D Cordura has been chosen to provide a durable exterior and long-lasting resilience, the coated pack cloth lines the inner compartment for easy clean up and the bright colour helps you see smaller items like loose change in the bottom of the bag. There is a leather lash tab for attaching extra gear or a bike light, on the inside there is a dedicated laptop sleeve, which will fit most 15” laptops or tablets, in front of that there is a zippered compartment suitable for holding chargers or cables.
There is an internal organisation panel that can be used to store your wallet, passport or notebook for example, the main compartment has a U-shape access and moving onto the outside there are two side water bottle pockets and a large exterior pocket with a diagonal zip which adds nothing to the performance but looks cool. The combination of the padded back panel and contoured padded shoulder straps make it comfortable to wear, however the lack of hip and chest straps means it isn’t suited to long treks or lacks a little stability if you are riding a bicycle. There is a carry handle on the top, heavy-duty YKK zippers, travel bag attachment loops, leather lash tab and ice axe loop for when you need to climb up a sheer cliff of ice to get to the 9am business meeting. The Daypack is a function bag but lack of features (hip/chest strap, high vis, ventilation system, rain cover) means it is probably best suited for urban travel where it can be used to simply hold your daily essentials and look stylish at the same time.
