Once upon a time, it was rather an inconvenience to use a projector at school. The projector was pushed around on a huge dinner lady’s trolley, and anything that you wanted to show using the projector had to be first printed onto a piece of clear projector paper called a transparency. I imagine it was quite an ordeal to set this up as well as having to print all your teaching aides onto transparencies. However, we are now well into the 21st century and technology has moved forward rapidly, all with the intention of making our lives much easier. And this is exactly what the HUE HD Pro camera does.
We are great fans of HUE here at The Gadget Head and have previously published a rave review of their HUE Animation Studio which is a wonderful piece of kit allowing children to hone their skills in stop motion animation.
The product was initially launched in 2015 and has now been upgraded to boast a full HD 1080p resolution and although especially designed for use in the classroom, it can be equally well used for work from home, in offices, and in any kind of industry.
The HUE HD Pro camera connects via a USB port to any Windows, macOS , Linux or Chrome OS computer. It is Plug & Play, requires no drivers to be downloaded and is incredibly easy to set up and use. The package includes the camera, an optional USB base, 1.5m USB cable, downloadable HUE Intuition software and User Guide.
We received the black version of this product, which looks nice and neutral, but it also comes in more playful colours such as red, lime green, and sky blue. If you are not as computer literate as others – you don´t need to worry as the user guide provides helpful information about the camera´s functionality and the specially designed software called HUE Intuition which allows you to make the most out of your camera. HUE also offers free guides for using the camera with Zoom, MS Teams and Google Meet if you´re using the camera for video conferencing which are available on their website.
This is a great little piece of kit by HUE. The camera only takes up a small amount of space on your desk and is easily portable. It can view a full A3 page but you can pretty much project whatever you like including 3D and moving objects. The camera can record video with sound using the in-built microphone, or simply project the live video stream. The software includes features to take snapshots, annotate the image using different shapes and colours, and, using the image capture feature, take pictures at pre-defined intervals, on movement or on keypress.
The HUE HD Pro Camera is affordable as well as useful. Retailing at just under £50 is quite a steal for a Plug & Play full HD camera. If you are a teacher, or even someone in another field who regularly presents to large groups of people, then you could find this lovely piece of kit incredibly useful!
