The Trooper glasses are designed specifically for gaming. They come with the option of tinted and prescription lenses, as well as a choice of frame and even pupillary distance - you can custom design these glasses to make them perfect for your needs.
We were testing out the amber-tinted lens with the onyx frame. My first reaction to my reflection was “Wow, I look like a geeky Ali G!” and strangely enough, geeky Ali G really suited me. The black onyx frames could put some people off; the transparent grey smoke frames provide an alternative option for people who would like a subtler look.
The frames are made from a moulded flexible nylon-polymer material, making them light and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The nylon temple sleeves and adjustable silicon nose pads helped the glasses stay put no matter how much I jumped about and yelled at the screen (things always get intense when I play Rayman). The lenses are large and wide, giving you an unobstructed view and good peripheral vision ideal for fast-paced shoot ‘em ups, and the frames are designed to bow out around the head so that they can comfortably integrate a headset.
The glasses come with a soft microfiber bag that can also be used to clean off any finger prints. The build quality of the glasses feels strong yet flexible, but even so, I would have liked to see a hard case included for the price, as the fabric bag offers little more than scratch protection.
The Troopers are a good-looking, tactile and durable pair of gaming glasses that can be custom designed to your prescription needs as well as being super comfortable. Altogether, they are good value for money. RRP £69.99
