If you are into travelling, camping or general adventures, chances are you have had some bad experiences trying to get to sleep. Perhaps you were lying in a freezing cold sleeping bag, or had bugs landing on your skin when it was too hot to be in one, or you’ve cringed at the thought of climbing in between some questionable bedsheets in a budget hostel. Having been in all three of these positions, I got my hands on a sleeping bag liner before setting off on a month-long trip to Asia, and it has easily been one of the best things I’ve invested in.

Sadly, funds were tight at the time, so I settled for a bulky, heavy cotton liner that proved a hassle to lug about for 30 days, so I was very happy when the Lifeventure Silk Ultimate Liner landed on my desk for review. Made from 100% silk, this liner is super light. At only 134g including the rip-stop carrycase bag, you won’t even know it’s there. The liner is available in mummy or rectangular shape, and packs down to 130 x 90 x 60mm, but even then it is still squidgy, so you could easily squeeze it down even smaller if you needed too.

This liner can be used on its own or combined with your sleeping bag. It has an integrated pillow sleeve, so you can pop your pillow inside and lay on it without it touching your skin or sliding about. The liner is also treated with Polygene odour control technology to help keep it smelling fresh for longer. For small valuables, there is a secret hidden passport pocket, so you can keep precious items safe whilst you sleep. The carrycase helps to protect the liner from the elements and features a roll-down buckled closure and a hook for attaching it to your bag or belt. The silk naturally regulates your body temperature, wicks away perspiration and dries very quickly; it works well as an extra insulating layer inside the bag or as a light, protective layer outside of the bag.

I love the Lifeventure Silk Ultimate Liner - it feels lovely and soft against your skin, keeps you at a comfortable temperature inside and outside of a sleeping bag, is light and compact and has very little impact on your gear weight.
