HORL® 3 Cruise Knife Sharpener

£99.00

Trying to cook with a blunt knife is super difficult and often leads to more accidents when knives slip instead of slicing into your food. However, knowing how to sharpen your knife can be a real struggle, too. This is where HORL comes in to take away the confusion, and deliver a range of easy-to-use, functional and aesthetically pleasing knife sharpeners that are perfect for keeping your blades sharp.

We got to test out the HORL 3 Cruise Knife Sharpener, which is designed with two sharpening angles and a high-quality diamond disc to perfectly sharpen your knives. On first glance, you might be wondering how a cylinder and a block can be used to sharpen your knives – but it's super simple. You just place down the magnetic block, which features two different angles on each side. For most kitchen knives, the 20° angle is perfect. Once this is placed, you magnetise your knife to it, blade side up, so the knife blade is angled with the block’s 20° angle. Then you need the knife sharpening cylinder, which features a diamond disc on one side and a stainless-steel disc on the other. Taking the diamond disc side, you place this against the blade that is at the perfect angle, thanks to the block, and you then roll the knife sharpening cylinder against the length of the blade, perfectly sharpening just the edge. The whole movement feels super secure as the pieces magnetise together thanks to the strong hold of the HORL Grip Pad, so you just have to keep a steady pressure and movement to perfectly hone the edge of your knife in a few simple strokes.

The diamond disc is designed to perfectly grind the edge of your knife to get it super sharp and ideal for cutting. Then, to remove any burr or grinding residue, you just switch round the sharpening cylinder and place the stainless-steel disc on the other end against your knife edge and repeat the process. This helps to remove any residue left over and produce a perfectly smooth knife edge that is ready to put to use. I love how simple the HORL 3 Cruise Knife Sharpener is to use, and it takes all the guesswork out of having to make sure you’re sharpening your knife at the perfect angle - as is the case with other sharpeners and honing steels. In fact, the HORL 3 Cruise even has a 15° angle on the other side of the block, which is perfect for particularly fine blades, especially those made from high-quality carbon or Damascus steel. By providing two angles for sharpening, the HORL 3 Cruise is super versatile and makes the perfect kitchen accessory to keep all your kitchen knives sharp and ready to assist you in your culinary adventures.

One of the things I especially love about the HORL 3 Cruise Knife Sharpener is that it is made from ocean-bound plastic, making it more sustainable. HORL have worked with their Swiss partners #tide®, who collect plastic and process it into granulate. This then has a small amount of pigment added to it and is used to create the knife sharpener. This gives the overall look of the knife sharpener a lovely, sandy look, highlighting where the plastic used in the construction has come from, whilst adding a lovely, sustainable aspect to its design.

Overall, if you have a budding chef in your life, one of the best gifts you can get them is a great knife sharpener, and the HORL 3 Cruise is a great option for this. The HORL 3 Cruise provides a versatile range of angles, supported by a strong magnetic grip and a diamond disc to perfectly hone your knives every time. Priced just under £100, this makes an ideal luxury present for the festive season to add a touch of luxury to the kitchen, whilst being super functional too!
