Puro Sound Labs – Volume Limited Kids' Headphones

As much as we moan about the kids of today being glued to screens, to be honest it can be a life saver keeping them entertained in awkward moments, long car journeys, queuing for anything and boring family functions. What isn’t as helpful is having to listening to the game/kid’s show/god awful pop band on repeat. Headphones are an excellent choice to alleviate the assault on your ears, however you don’t want them to wind up with hearing problems before they have had a chance to destroy them at various metal gigs when they are older.

The Puro Volume Limited Kids’ Headphones, unsurprisingly, limits the volume to a safe level suitable for 8 hours of continuous listening for small ears - which turns out to be 85dB (also the safe limit for big ears). Compare this to adult headphones, which will happily creep up to 100dB+ and will damage hearing over time. This control is accomplished through DSP (Digital Signal Processing) in the CSR chip under Bluetooth mode. The sound protection isn’t the only feature of these child friendly headphones: these can be used wirelessly to avoid getting tangled up in cables, or with the included aux lead, but it is fully detachable at both ends so there is a low chance of injury (unless their sibling is involved). It is also made from non-toxic and durable materials; we all know those wires will end up in the mouth at some point.

The ear cups are smaller than regular headphones, so they won’t cover the entire side of the child’s head, just the ears. There is plenty of padding on the headband and earcups to prevent fatigue, the headband is adjustable (Collapsed 14 inches, Fully Extended 16 inches) for growing bodies or sharing with a sibling (yeah, good luck with that!) The Puro Kids can isolate 82% of ambient noise for better clarity, the Bluetooth 4.0 connection offers the standard 10m range, which works well and features one-touch. The battery is rechargeable and will provide you with 18 hours of listening time (200 hours standby), or simply plug in when the battery dies. It comes in a variety of colours with a large but flat protective hard-case which could be improved with a handle or strap. It is easy enough to set up: a slide on/off gets things started then hold the Bluetooth button to switch on for pairing. There are also volume controls and a built-in microphone for hands free calls.

The sound quality is great (even with Bluetooth compressing the fun out of everything,) rich layered mid-tones, crisp and clear treble and adequate bass that doesn’t overpower. It sounds clean and precise with audio books, tv/movies and games. Perhaps slightly pricier than you would expect to pay but what you get for your money is safe, durable, attractive and comfortable headphones that produce great audio to keep your little darlings out of trouble and distracted for up to 8 hours.
