Shabs’s first taste of motherhood included an emergency caesarean, struggling with the inability to breastfeed and developing postnatal depression, topped off with the issues of leaving the flat carrying a baby, pushchair and bags down the stairs with her caesarean stitches, she decided to take things into her own hands by fashioning her very own baby wrap. Shabs believes this helped her to finally feel the bond that she didn’t realise she was lacking due the trauma of the first few weeks, and the combination of skin-to-skin contact and seeing her baby asleep on her chest brought her an amazing sense of peace. From there Shabs and her mum began experimenting with different fabrics and designs with the right amount of stretch until Amawrap was finally born and ready to hit the market.

One thing that can put people off even attempting slings is because they aren’t sure how to tie them but Amawrap will even offer one-on-one video calls if you are worried about your tying abilities. After nearly ten years Amawraps are still being manufactured in the UK and they provide slings and training to local hospitals in order to encourage them to use them with their premature babies, a method called “kangaroo care”, and provide wraps for charities. There are 12 fabric designs to choose from and the slings are certified by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute, thanks to the way baby’s hips and back are supported in an ergonomic position, and there are also lots of ways to support baby’s head. It comes with a matching bag for compact storage when not in use, one size fits all and they are constructed with 100% pure cotton wrap. Although they don’t feel as soft as or as stretchy as some of the other wraps on the market, the fabric is supportive, lightweight and comfortable against your and baby’s skin. Like so many wraps of this nature it can get a little warm between you and baby so be prepared for some sweat patches when you take it off. Overall this wrap is suitable from newborn up until 33lbs in weight and feels secure, a great way to bond with baby, hands free. RRP £44.99 (Core Colours) £49.99 (Patterns)
