My friends have recently become parents for the first time, and among the myriad of new things they both now worry about, whether their baby is too hot or too cold is one of the biggies. A safe sleeping environment can be vital for reducing the risk of cot death (SIDS) and it is currently recommended for the nursery temperature to be maintained between 16–20°C. The Groegg 2 is a wonderful idea that allows parents a quick visual of the nursery temperature with a unique colour-changing room thermometer that doubles up as a nightlight. The Groegg 2 uses a colour-coded light system to show you the temperature, as well as a digital number displayed under the light. Red indicates 24˚C and above, orange 20˚C-24˚C, yellow 16˚C-20˚C (this is what you want) and blue 16˚C and below. The box and instructions also recommend which Grobag sleeping bag you would need for the room temperature.

The second generation of this award-winning egg, the Groegg 2 features a new squidgy, silicone design that is 33% bigger and brighter than the original model, as well as soft to the touch. It also includes four adjustable brightness levels so you have the option of using it as a nightlight or dimming it down to a more discrete glow. The Gloegg2 is compact and robust, making it easy to travel with and take to grandma’s or on holiday (I can feel all the parents with babies rolling their eyes at the idea of a holiday). It doesn’t take up too much room on a chest of draws or changing table, and the light system means you can easily read the temperature whether it is on the floor or up high on a shelf. I would like the option to switch the glow off completely, so just the digital display remains, as this could be useful for if you are all sharing a room on nights away from home. RRP £29.99
