The Leica DISTO D810 Touch is a 15-measurement-mode laser distance meter, accurate to 1mm, and is chock full of useful features to let you get on with the job. For starters, it has a touch screen UI, integrated digital camera, a tilt sensor and is Bluetooth Smart. The D810's exclusive Measure In Picture (MIP) technology can deliver you with the height, width, area, diameter, or circumference of an object in a picture taken. This works by letting you bracket your target using pointers on the touch screen to remotely measure the width, area, or diameter of the object. It has a 200m+ range and can easily reach beyond the view of the naked eye, and the point finder has a 4x digital zoom with cross hairs on the LCD display to show you where the laser is.

The Smart Horizontal lets you shoot over obstacles, so you can measure the level horizontal distance to your target. You can send measurements directly to your apps using Bluetooth Smart, and the Leica DISTO Sketch App lets you take a picture with your iPhone or Android and layer measured lines on top of it. The Diameter function uses the MIP technology to measure cylindrical objects, the big receiver lens and its connected module have a range of over 600ft (depending on conditions). The Intelligent Endpiece can be flipped open 90 degrees to align the base perfectly on an edge or corner, and it can also be flipped out all the way and put into a corner to accurately measure diagonals. The memory store will hold 30 displays and images with measurements associated with them, and there is a timer to delay a measurement the same way you would with the shutter on a digital camera. With over 20 functions and ways to measure, you will always have your favourites, so the aptly named Favourites function lets you add your most-used functions to the tabs at the bottom of the touch screen for quick access. The Leica DISTO D810 Touch has a rechargeable battery that will take approximately 4000 measurements per charge, and the entire device is housed in a tough and durable casing.

All in all, you couldn’t ask for much more in a laser distance meter, other than it getting up to make you a cuppa on your break. The Leica DISTO D810 Touch has more functions than you could possibly use, all wrapped up in a high quality box. RRP £688
