Over the last 12 months we have had the pleasure of reviewing two of Buffalo’s devices the MiniStation Air 2 and their DriveStation Quad and this month we have taken a look at their new HDV-SA series DriveStation Media Hard Drive. You can buy the HDV-SA series in three sizes 1TB, 2TB and 3TB so it all depends on how extensive you want to make your media library while allowing you to clear up space on your TV’s, Recorders and PCs. We tested out the 1TB version which I connected up to my TV set up and it looked right at home with my Virgin Box and Xbox One, the device is black with dimensions (W) 207mm, (H) 123mm and (D) 40.5mm so hides itself away nicely. Another great thing about the way this hard drive has been designed is the back where you plug in your power cable and data connector, these points have been pushed slightly forward meaning that you can press the hard drive tight to the back of your wall without any push back.
Now the real big pulling in point of this external drive is that it is an absolute warrior I have left this on now for almost 6 weeks and haven’t run into one problem, the reason for this is that the HDV-SA series comes fanless and has vibration dampening rubber feet. We have all used external hard drives where when you start pushing it too hard or the temperature of the room goes up 1 degree you can’t hear your film over the noise of the churning drive, you don’t get that from this device which makes it ideal for your living room. The hard drive automatically turns on and off with whatever device it is connected to and was automatically detected by everything it was connected too, I have become a massive fan they are just like the Lee Dixon of the football world “reliable”!
