Ever wonder what goes on in your home when you aren’t there? Well, wonder no more with the Withings Home Video and Air Quality Monitor. This monitor can stream HD video via WiFi or 3G/4G and will work with your smartphone, tablet, Apple watch etc., and is the first camera you can stream on your Apple TV.
This smart little camera learns and adapts to your household; over the first few days, the Withings Home will take note of natural light shifts and background noises so it can accurately assess how your home should look and sound when it is empty. Once it is used to routines, it can recognise if something out of the norm happens and will dutifully alert you. The Home is easy to set up, and is the only camera that analyses findings within the device instead of sending your gathered information to an outside server, keeping your data protected.
As well as live-streaming and sending Smart alerts (which you can adjust or simply to suit you), the Home allows you to check out the last few hours of footage with a quick reference timeline. You can also watch the last 48hours in a quick-time lapse animation, and with the Premium Cloud Video Recording plan, starting at $7.95 (about £6.50) a month, you can save, watch, download and share up to 30 days’ worth of footage. Another one of the Home’s cool features is the baby monitoring mode and push-to-talk function - this provides instant audio and motion alerts right to your smartphone, even on lock screen, and allows you to have a live two-way chat with the little one at any time.
The Home has a 135-degree wide angle lens, night vision and can play Lulla Light & Music programs with a customisable LED light sequences to entertain and soothe your baby. The Home will also monitor what you can’t see and provide you with an insight into your home’s air quality, as indoor air pollution can be ten times higher than outdoor air pollution. The easy-to-read graph in the companion app will show you the past and current levels of Volatile Organic Compounds within the room, and if these reach unhealthy levels, the Home blinks red and sends a notification.
The Home is a smart camera with lots of bonus features that would make it ideal for homes with babies and small children. It is easy and fun to use, and is an all-round innovative product. RRP £169.95
