There is a lot to be said for simplicity and that is what makes the Red Witch Pentavocal Tremolo a great little pedal, the is a Pentavocal Tremolo pedal is tremolo with 5 different “voices” to play with, you can choose the frequency response by turning the rotary selector to the desired setting. You start with delicate shimmering tones all the way through to deep pulses that make your insides throb. A quick shout out to the feature on the website that allows you to play with the different settings and hear the effects in real time, much better than having to trawl through wannabe rock starts on YouTube to get an idea of what the pedal sounds like. This versatile sound crosses genres, folk and country to rock and industrial you will find this pedal is a staple sound that never seems to go out of fashion. The Red Witch Pentavocal Tremolo provides you with the typical tremolo options, Velocity knob for controlling the speed which is then displayed with a handy green light that flashes in time with the speed for quick reference, depth, strength and a footswitch to trigger the wave settings and the overall roundness of the tremolo. It doesn’t stop there however the volume control has enough power to push the amp into overdrive as well as compensating for signal loss when using the tremolo, you also get a very special bottom control knob (something we could all do with now and again) allowing you to play with the amount of low end, working as either a high or low filter, it lets you choose between more or less of a round signal. That brings us to the last knob on the pedal, the 5 different voices that give you a sharp clean cut tone, through to a nice balance in the pedal and finishing a deep rich sound with attitude. I was slightly disappointed with the design of the Pentavocal Trevolo as their Seven Sister range have really cool graphics, so does the Empress Chorus and Medus and the packaging made me think it was going to have more illustrations than it did. Also do you remember the summer that every girl under 20 was wearing cut off daisy duke shorts? Well I found what they have been doing with the cut offs, this pedal comes with a crudely made denim bag that has no way of closing and offers no way in protection. Nevertheless, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and this pedal performs really well where it counts and it gives you awesome sounds and loads more control than your average trevolo pedal.
