Bresser’s ‘Newton telescopes’ range has become a go-to in deep sky astrophotography, and in this model, that tried and tested design has received a level-up. The MESSIER MCX-127 and telescopes of its ilk prioritise transportability and the tracking capabilities of the GoTo navigator; the NT-203s/800 f3.9 prioritises light gathering and produces brighter images. Its design has been changed from its predecessor by increasing the size of its primary mirror, which makes the images if produces deeper and more detailed. To get technical, this large primary mirror makes this a faster optical system than the old design and this allows significantly shorter exposure times. Meanwhile, the big 85mm secondary mirror prevents vignetting for optimal illumination. This telescope has an aperture of 203mm and a focal length of 800mm f/3.9, and comes with a 2.5" Hexafoc Focuser that is able to be upgrade to a 10:1 reduction.

In terms of handling, the telescope has large and easy-to-use knobs for adjusting both mirrors, and if you wish, it is possible to purchase and link up a GoTo system to assist in your handling. As with the MESSIER MCX-127, it has a sturdy construction and precise engineering to make sure its mounts and body are rigid whilst its axis are smooth.

One thing Bresser is clear to mention is that this make of NT-203s/800 telescope is less suitable for landscape viewing in the daytime – it is made specifically for stargazing, so bear this in mind in case you would like a more all-purpose purchase. However, if you want a clear, beautiful look into the sky and the ability to capture it, the NT-203s/800 f3.9 is the new go-to, improving on an already tested and popular design to raise the bar and re-set the standard.
