NHT are renowned for their ‘high end, not high price’ speaker systems, so we were delighted to receive their C-3 bookshelf speaker in their limited edition, carbon fibre finish. The standard gloss black looks sleek but this has the visual impact that matches the layered sound it delivers, and suits the aesthetics of my place far better than anything shiny. In fact, show me something that doesn’t look better in carbon fibre.

The speaker - a 6.5” aluminium cone woofer, 2” aluminium dome midrange and 1” aluminium dome tweeter -  with a sensitivity of 87dB delivers a blended sound, that said I found the treble very clean and distinct. The acoustic suspension sealed box unit means this sort of detail isn’t affected by placement. The frequency range of 55Hz-20kHz suited my listening, but if you prefer to feel the bass, you might consider adding a subwoofer to augment the range, however for me this is beyond enjoyable as a full-range system, and I prefer to get along with my neighbours! At just 13.75”H x 7.5”W x 10.125”D this certainly leaves the opportunity to consider doubling up, and/or complementing with a subwoofer.
