Are you addicted to your smart phone? Don’t worry, that’s a rhetorical question, I know you’re addicted. Do you ever wish you could go back to that time in the late 90s and early 00s when it was possible to have all the convenience of a mobile phone but also without the distractions of apps that have clearly been designed to be addictive? Well, the MP02 Mobile Phone by Punkt could be a breath of fresh air and give you a rest from being constantly hunched over your phone all day and night.

The concept is simple. Punkt create phones that use you can use for texting and phone calls. That’s it. There is a slight twist though, the MP02 also comes with 4G LTE but you cannot access the internet via your phone. Instead, the MP02 can be used to tether from, so if you have a laptop or tablet with you whilst you’re on the go, you can access internet while tethering from your Punkt phone.

Punkt don’t hold back with their designs. As the capability of the MP02 is limited to texts, calls, and 4G, it is understandable to expect more from the other aspects of the phone. The MP02 certainly delivers, with a lovely ergonomic design and a body that is glass-fibre reinforced and covered in a protective coating. This is a particular good feature as most smart phones are very smooth and sometimes slippy to handle if you don’t have a case to hold them in. The MP02 also features an oleophobic and tempered glass screen that is easily viewable on the sunniest of days.

There is no doubt that we don’t need to be using our phones all the time. However, they can provide us with a lot of useful tools. Educational apps can be very useful and allow you to achieve much more than spending 20 minutes scrolling on TikTok or just playing a free mobile game with adverts popping up every other minute. Smart phones have also replaced MP3 players completely now and this means there is one less thing in your pockets. A lot of people simply don’t text or call anymore either, and apps such as WhatsApp and Facebook messenger continue to dominate.

Sure, I complain about my phone a lot. It is most definitely collecting data on me and listening to my every word. But I also value many of the apps that I use on a daily basis, and these are certainly not a distraction or an annoyance. There are essential and convenient.

However, everyone has a different relationship with their mobile phone. If you really do detest your smart phone or are concerned with the amount of screen time you have due to wasteful apps, it might be time to consider the MP02 by Punkt.
