This four-person dinner set consists of 4 x 250ml mugs, 4 x 26cm dinner plates and 4 x 13cm deep bowls. They are available in either green, blue or off-white; we tested the off-white option.

There is a clue in the name as to what the dinner set is made from - 100% bamboo, an eco-friendly material due to its incredibly fast growth rate and zero pesticide requirements. Bamboo is also biodegradable, meaning the dinner set will decompose when it is no longer in use.

However, just because it can decompose, this doesn’t mean these dinner pieces are flimsy. Every item felt as solid as plastic if not more so, the texture a strange combination of plastic and paper which was actually really tactile. All the pieces together are light and packed away easily alongside my camping stove, and I wasn’t worried about them getting broken like I would with a real porcelain set.

We used all the items time and time again over the five days we were away. I was pleased to see that even with black coffees, chocolate puddings and tomato based curries, the set washed up perfectly every time. It was also pleasant to eat off of, unlike an old plastic dinner set we had; the cups kept the drinks warm whilst the handles stayed cool enough to hold, and with warm food on them, the plates and bowls were comfortable on our laps.

I was really impressed with the dinner set; the only change that would make it perfect would be if cutlery made from the same material was included in the price. People should be encouraged to be more earth-friendly where they can be, but I think £40.99 (that’s £3.41 per item) may scare some people off.

All in all, the Bamboo Dinner Set is a hardy collection of cups, plates and bowls that will bring a bit of class, as well as a feel-good factor, to the campsite.
