The glass-filled nylon is a thermoplastic material where durability is improved by adding chopped glass fibres, this allows for excellent durability to the handle without adding significant weight. In fact, the glass-filled nylon handles of Leatherman knives are so strong that an inner steel frame is not required, keeping the weight low for lighter everyday use.
