The new Deckvest Vito from Spinlock has just come on the market with a harness release system, this offshore 170N hammer lifejacket and has been based on their design work for the Volvo Ocean Race. Spinlock have tried to create a new design that crews wanted to wear more frequently, to start with it has a slim profile which allows you to maintain a full range of movement and for an extended life span it has been constructed from durable rip stop fabric.
The Vito is quick and easy to slip on and off thanks to the structured fit and the buckles mean you can quickly adjust the lifejacket for a close and secure fit for all body sizes/number of layers. The Vito uses a Hammar Hydrostatic Automatic Inflator which is activated by water pressure and will not inflate until the cap is approximately 10cm underwater, making it best suited for more extreme conditions and extended offshore sailing. The Vito’s less sensitive nature means this jacket will not accidentally inflate from being wet with rain and sea spray.
There is a single indicator to show when the Hammer is armed whilst the Pylon Lifejacket Light provides a high intensity, water activated flashing LED Light with a 23cm flexible antenna wand for improved visibility above head and water. All VITO can be upgraded with the unique Spinlock Harness Release System (HRS), this has just been launched and ensures that a simple release from a safetyline, even when fully loaded, is easily accessible with either hand, but significantly reduces the risk of an accidental snag or release.
Other key features are the added protection in high impact areas, there is a new style structured sprayhood to reduce the risk of secondary drowning, the LumeOn lifejacket bladder illumination lights for better visibility. There is also a wider 40mm leg strap with stowage, the toggle attachment point for optional Chest Pack (DW-PCC), an optional Ocean Signal AIS MOB1 which is available to purchase as a stand-alone unit or supplied integrated within a Deckvest.
