The Blackbird XLC is the big brother version of the Blackbird. It features a choice of suspension, built-in bug netting and a shelf/footbox, just like its counterpart, but with the addition of about 12″ extra space in length.

Its body is roughly 132″x 63″ with an overall length of 111″, which provides you with about 11 inches of tarp overlap at each end of the hammock when using an 11-foot tarp. All this extra space means the XLC is suitable for a user up to height of 7’0″.

The netting is fully removable, and our version came with the optional winter Topcover, which can be used instead of the netting in winter for added protection against the elements (it will raise the temperature in the hammock to about 15 ᵒC whilst remaining breathable, to prevent the whole thing turning into a sweatbox.) The XLC is also treated with a DWR water-resistant treatment that causes moisture like morning dew to bean off, but isn’t effective as protection against rain.

The XLC is available with a single layer or double layer body: the double layer will increase the weight capacity and is recommended for anybody using an extra pad lining on the bottom for added insulation. We were pleased to see that the XLC includes the clever storage shelf and footbox of the Blackbird: this handy feature is about two square feet in size and ideal for items you don’t want to leave on the ground, such as your shoes, water bottle and valuables. The footbox allows you to fully stretch out in the hammock without restriction, making it feel more like a natural sleeping experience.
